Support for Braille Font Attribute Marks: For those who primarily read using Braille, it can be difficult to determine when text is using specific font attributes like bold, italics, or underline. Unified English Braille (UEB) and other Braille codes define dot patterns which are used as Braille indicators that may precede and follow text to identify the specific attribute being used. For example, in UEB: Dots 4-6 represents italics. Dots 4-5-6 represents underlined. Dots 4-5 represents bold. Following each indicator, another dot pattern represents how far the text containing the attribute extends: dots 2-3 for a single character, dot 2 for a word, or dots 2-3-5-6 for an entire passage. To configure JAWS to show font attribute marks when reading or editing documents using Braille: Press INSERT+6 on the number row to open Settings Center. To apply changes to all applications, press CTRL+SHIFT+D to load the JAWS default settings. To apply changes to a specific application, select it from the Applications combo box. In the Search edit box, type "marks" without the quotes. Press DOWN ARROW to move to Show Font Attribute Marks in the search results and press SPACEBAR to select it. Choose OK to save your changes and close Settings Center. FSCompanion Improvements: You can now open FSCompanion using the JAWS Voice Assistant. For instance, you can say “hey Sharky, open FSCompanion.” This launches FSCompanion in the Results Viewer, similar to pressing INSERT+SPACEBAR, F1. Once FSCompanion is opened, you now also have the option to speak your questions. Press ALT+SHIFT+D, or use the Dictate button to start dictating to FSCompanion. Press ALT+SHIFT+D again, or use the Stop dictation button to stop. The dictated text will appear in the input edit box for review. HID Braille Support: Short for Human Interface Device, products using HID technology are automatically recognized by Windows, enabling plug and play functionality for output and input, similar to connectin |
